Conditions Treated by Our Veterinarian

Lakeville Animal Hospital in Lakeville and Middleborough, MA, helps cats, dogs, pocket pets, and reptiles. If your pet is under the weather, bring them in. If your pet has a skin condition or signs of gum disease, we can assist with those. We've compiled a list of what we help with, but remember that these are only a few things.

Heartworms

If an infected mosquito bites your pet, it will develop heartworm. This parasite can sometimes grow to be around a foot long, and it will multiply. Heartworms not only target your pet's heart. They can also infect their lungs and other organs. We can treat the issue in most dogs, but treatment usually isn't successful in cats. We can, however, administer preventive medicine so your pet doesn't end up with a heartworm.

Diabetes

Both type one and two diabetes can occur in a pet. Uncontrolled sugar levels can wreak havoc on your pet's organs, including the heart and kidneys. Fortunately, we offer treatments to manage sugar levels and prevent any complications.

Pet Allergies

Whether your pet has a food, airborne, or dermatological allergy, our practitioner can determine the cause and reduce the prevalence of flares through lifestyle changes. If that's not possible, we can provide medication to assist.

Rabies

Rabies is a viral infection that attacks the nervous system, including the brain. It results in the death of mammals, because there's currently no cure. However, it's a preventable disease with regular vaccinations. Therefore, we urge you to bring your pet to our vet to protect them regularly.

Gum Disease

Improper dental care can lead to gum disease. It occurs when your pet has bacteria around the gum line. As a result, it causes your pet's gums to swell. The longer it progresses, the worse damage it can do. For instance, your pet's tooth may need to be extracted if it's let to damage the gums and jaw bone. Sometimes, your pet may just lose the tooth, but we can provide deep cleaning to prevent this from occurring.

Parvovirus

Though parvo can be a deadly viral infection for some pups, your pet will have the best prognosis when you receive treatment early. We provide you with how to care for your pet as they try to recover. Plus, we can provide your pet with a vaccination before they come in contact with it.

  • "I'm so pleased with the experience I had at lakeville animal hospital. I am traveling with my dog from northern Maine to visit family and my dog had been sick for 3 days. She couldn't keep any food or water down. Long story short I called lakeville animal hospital and they were able to squeeze Aspen in later on in the day. Turns out the reason Aspen had been sick was that she had atleast one blockage in her intestines. They immediately sent us to a 24 hour emergency vet in Swansea for a surgery. Aspen is now out of surgery with 2 incisions in her intestines and 1 in her stomach. Being a long way from home with a sick puppy is not fun and is quite stressful. But I'm thankful the crew at lakeville animal hospital was able to see her so soon, take X-rays, give her a diagnosis, and make a recommendation for a 24 hour surgery facility."
